I agree. Technology is wonderful. I know a lot of teachers who won't use it because of the chance that something will go wrong. I think it is better to just expect that something will happen, have a backup plan, and deal with what comes. Honestly, I think it is good for something to go wrong every once in a while. It is a good lesson for the students.

So true! Just this afternoon, as we settled in to culminate our week of Ibn Battuta with Journey to Mecca the power went out. It was only out a few minutes, but it was another 15+ until the network was back online, etc. When they moaned I just reminded them that we could not watch it at all. That helped put the glitch in perspective. Glitches and all, we are thankful for technology.

It's always good to have backups.
Tech really got me once when i was meant to present as a part of a group - well, I lost the USB containing the presentation. Fortunately, I had uploaded the files to my cloud drive - presentation saved. (:
I find it particularly useful to have backups of files from my blog, too, just in case Wordpress suddenly dies, and I need to refer to my materials.

I appreciate your comment Sarah. Really, when I look at how much technology I have in my own room, I am pretty lucky. Plus, I work in a district that does everything it can to push forward. Many teachers are faced with policies that hinder the use of technology, but it is the total opposite where I work. It is good to hear that you have an awesome room to work in. Make the most of it (and by the way, I would never be mad with someone as lucky as you, just a little bit jealous).

Thank you. I am both a special education teacher and the tech coach at my school. Not to rub it in, but I basically have your dream classroom. We have 7 Macbooks instead of a class set and I don't have the surround sound. I have everything else on your list. I also have two iPads and access to 6 more. Your post makes me realize how lucky I am. I use all of this technology in an elementary school that has a poverty index of 74% and in a small rural town with literally one stop light. I hope while this comment probably makes you mad at me, it also gives you hope. I use technology each and every day and spend my planning trying to get others to do the same. The growth I've seen in my students due to technology incorporation has been incredible. Thank you for pointing out just how lucky my school is. I plan on sharing your post with my principal in appreciation.

I'll admit that some of my students got frustrated with Fakebook from classtools.net. However, the majority of my students got it to work, and it worked great. I am not positive, but certain permissions within a school may cause some problems with the app. The browser might also affect how the app operates on a computer. Generally, I have had the best luck using Firefox when using web apps. They just seem to work better with that browser.

Again, if the computer apps aren't working, download the Word template. It works great, and you aren't relying on something hosted on the web. Find a way for it to work because it is a great way for students to show what they have learned creative manner.
